DAVID
David Hobby was a staff newspaper photojournalist for 20 years before founding Strobist.com, the net's most popular photographic lighting resource, in 2006. Strobist has taught literally millions of photographers around the world how to better use light. His site receives about 100,000 page views a day, from more than 300,000 photographers a month, from nearly every country on the planet. Which all sounds pretty cool unless you read McNally's bio immediately to the right. So please don't.
GEAR
As little as possible. A Nikon body, coupla lenses and as many Nikon SB-800s as I can bring without kicking in excess baggage charges. I am sort of the "anti-McNally."
PHILOSOPHY
If at all possible, wear shorts. If in doubt, wear shorts.
WORK
Occasionally, if truly required. I'd rather be taking pictures.
FAVORITE QUOTE
"Other than that, Ms. Lincoln, how was the play?" (Which applies to photo shoots more often than you might think.)
RESOURCES
Strobist.com has more than 2,000 posts of free lighting information, and is worth every penny.
Also available: Strobist Lighting Seminar (DVD boxed set, June 2008).

JOE
Joe McNally is a photojournalist with over 30 years experience as a contributor to the National Geographic, Sports Illustrated as well as being the last staff photographer at LIFE magazine. He is a best selling author, a blogger, and an educator. His conversation with light began a long time ago, and is ongoing. As opposed to his counterpart on the tour, David Hobby, he does most of his work in long pants as he possesses quite possibly the whitest legs in the world, which equate to blown out highlights- in every photo that's ever been shot of him.
GEAR
Need you ask? I drive a Suburban for a reason. When it comes to airplanes, it usually costs more to ship the gear than it costs to ship me. Hey, wait a minute...
PHILOSOPHY
Even a bad day in the field (and I've had lots of those) beats a good day in the office.
WORK
Is that what some folks call this? I really love being a photog, so it's never seemed like work.
FAVORITE QUOTE
"Imagination is more important than knowledge." Good old Mr. Einstein. Perfect for photogs. We may not know much for sure, but we sure can imagine stuff.

THE CREW
Drew Gurian
Production Supervisor
Drew abandoned his wild ride of a life as a rock & roll drummer to embrace the security and stability of freelance photography. Last year, he was the one who said "Let's go on tour!"
Drew's TwitterTricia Masturzo
Tour Producer
An organizational whiz, whose initial efforts got the bus rolling. She organized dates, times and venues, as well as a reasonably sane path for the bus to follow.
Jeff Snyder
AKA, "The Big Guy", Jeff cannot only shoot with the best, he can conjure hard to get, just announced yesterday type cameras and lenses out of thin air. We think he's got the presidents of all the big photo manufacturers on speed dial.
Jeff's TwitterLynn DelMastro
Executive Tour Producer
She may be small, but she's from New York and is capable of doing more jobs and juggling more details in a single day than a flight controller at JFK during the holidays.
Mike Grippi
Photo & Road Assistant
Also known as "The Karaoke King" of Ridgefield, Grippi will, as his name suggests, be gripping and moving lighting, stands, etc. If he sings too much on the bus, he gets to travel with the luggage.
Mike's TwitterMonica
An organizational force of nature who has the magic of the web somehow embedded in her DNA. She will run the tickets, answer the questions, and as always, deliver the goods.
Karen Lenz
Road Manager / Tour Producer
AKA "Motor City Mama", she'll be the den mother, crew wrangler, and laying the smack down on any venue coordinator who shows up a few chairs short. Her female presence will keep the rest of the bus just this side of caveman.
Karen's TwitterMike Cali
Photo & Road Assistant
Will be preparing bowls of "blue only" M&M's, and basically doing whatever we tell him to- including running along side the bus.
Mike's TwitterMargi
Capable of organizing anything, even photographers, she can run three phone conversations at once. She will man the phones, handle the questions, and tell everybody, including us, where to go.
Huge thanks to Mike Cali & Trevi DelMastro for their production help, and to Rose Green for helping with all travel arrangements!
Keep Updated on the Tour!
